The West Bend-Mallard girls snapped a three-game losing skid here Thursday night, besting St. Edmond, 46-30.

Kierstin Montag had 24 points with 11 rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots to pace the Wolverines (9-6 overall), who improved to 4-0 vs. the Gaels (2-11) since 2021.

For St. Edmond, Chloe Palmer had nine points, with Anna Lursen and Josie Harvey each chipping in six.

“I felt like that was the most effort we have shown for four quarters this year,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We just really didn’t have an answer for Montag. She got in deep on us and we couldn’t defend her.

“But I told the girls after that I was proud of them and their fight. I felt like Ava (Underberg) really showed how hard she’s been working to improve and Silvia (Heldorfer) did a nice job early on against Montag.”

Down by as many as 20 in the first half, the Gaels would rally, cutting the deficit to 38-27 with just over six minutes to go. Palmer had six in the second half with Lursen adding four.

Montag took control, though, by scoring 14 over the final 16 minutes.

“We just have to learn from this and move forward,” Tracy said. “It doesn’t get any easier from here. We know what we need to continue to work on and where we need to get better to get where we want to go.”

Lursen recorded a team-high eight rebounds with Underberg adding seven for the Gaels.

St. Edmond welcomes in Clear Lake Friday night while West Bend-Mallard heads to Emmetsburg.
