No. 10 Gaels top No. 7 Tigers

ELDORA — The 10th-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team handed No. 7 (2A) South Hardin its first losses of the season here Thursday night, sweeping a doubleheader.

Scores were 5-0 and 6-2.

Kaili Henning and Faith Shirbroun each picked up wins inside the circle, striking out a combined 13 batters. Henning had nine in the opener for the Gaels (6-1 overall).

Eighth-grader Sophia Schlienz delivered two RBI in her first varsity start, while Lauren Gibb stole two bases in the first game.

“This was a quality team we were playing, so I’m pleased to see us pick up two wins on the road,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “We were able to string things together, our lineup produced and we got quality starts from Kaili and Faith.

“I think being able to sweep a doubleheader also showed some of our depth that we have.”

In the nightcap, Shirbroun was 4-for-4 at the plate with four steals and two runs, Gibb had three hits, drove in two and stole a base, and Anna Kolacia had a triple.

Henning also had three hits, including two doubles.

St. Edmond returns to North Central Conference action on Friday when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden.
