Fort Dodge, St. Edmond squaring off in softball

For the first time in nearly a decade, Fort Dodge and St. Edmond will meet on the softball field Tuesday.

The second-ranked (Class 4A) Dodgers and No. 10 (1A) Gaels square off at Rogers Park in a single varsity contest at approximately 7 p.m.

Head coach Andi Adams’s squad is currently 8-3 overall. Bill Shirbroun’s Gaels are 10-1 and winners of 10 consecutive games since a season-opening loss to Newell-Fonda.

The programs last played on June 20, 2014. Fort Dodge prevailed that day, 2-1.

Eighth-grader Hope Alstott is batting .594 for the Dodgers. Sophomores Meah McCaleb (.414) and Cadence Touney (.400) are next in line.

Sophomore Lucy Porter is 5-3 with a 2.27 earned run average.

For the Gaels, freshman Faith Shirbroun is hitting .543, sophomore Lauren Gibb is at .500 and junior Kaili Henning is at .485.

Henning is 6-0 with an 0.36 earned run average in the circle.
