Dodgers lose to Storm Lake

STORM LAKE — The Fort Dodge baseball team couldn’t put anything together against Storm Lake on Monday night.

The Dodgers (9-7 overall) dropped a 3-1 contest to the Tornadoes (11-4).

Storm Lake’s Carson Lullmann (3-1) threw a one-hitter, going six-plus innings. Jake Eddie retired the final batter for the Tornadoes.

Nathan Beekman (1-1) got the start on the night, going three-plus innings. Landen Hout and Landen Grandors came in relief.

“Our pitchers threw well and put us in position to win, but errors and no timely hitting was tough for us,” said Fort Dodge head coach Blake Utley. “Our guys were on a pitch count for the rest of the week, so we used three guys.”

Errors were the story of the night for both clubs, as they combined for seven. The Dodgers committed three.

Storm Lake got on the board first with a run in the third inning and tacked on two in the fifth.

The Dodgers lone tally came in the fifth inning. Jase Nekvinda had the only hit for the Dodgers. Royce Pederson was the only other Dodger base runner, who reached on a walk.

“Our only hit came in the first inning and we had a guy at third with one out,” Utley said. “We have to score in those situations and we didn’t.

“Offensively we had some good swings, but couldn’t find the holes. I thought Grant Williams did a tremendous job. He threw two guys out and had a backhand at the plate where he flipped to home for the tag.”

Jacob White had two hits for the Tornadoes. Lullman and Charlie Dvergsten drove in runs.

The Dodgers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Ottuma in a doubleheader at Ed McNeil Field.
