Gaels snap out of skid

POCAHONTAS — The St. Edmond boys came out more prepared and more ready to go here Thursday night, and the end result with a victory over Pocahontas Area, 61-42.

Sam Mericle scored 26 points and Jackson Palmer added 18 for the Gaels.

“We had a much better practice Wednesday than we did the night before we played West Bend-Mallard,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Part of that is on me and having them more prepared and ready.

“I thought we attacked the zone and our guards did a nice job of moving the ball.”

Tied at 10 after the first, St. Edmond would outscore the Indians 32-19 over the next 16 minutes.

Jack McElroy added eight points and JT Laufersweiler seven for the Gaels.

“It was good to come back after the game and see the kids smiling,” Kochendorfer said. “It was just good to get a win.”

Collin Dreith led Pocahontas Area with 10, while Gabe Ehn added eight and Jackson Flaherty seven.

St. Edmond returns to the court on Friday night when they host Algona. The Indians take on West Bend-Mallard.
