St. Edmond honors seniors

For the first time this season, St. Edmond seniors Anna Kolacia, Klara Baker and Katie Flaherty took the floor together.

The Gaels honored their three seniors here Friday night inside the SEHS gym against Clear Lake.

Baker, who suffered a knee injury in the preseason, tallied the final two points of the game as the Lions won, 71-32.

Flaherty has also missed time this season with a leg injury.

“It was just a completely different level of energy and effort compared to Thursday night,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “I know we talked before the game about playing for Klara and Katie because they can’t be out there. I thought the girls did a wonderful job.”

Josie Harvey scored a team-high 10 points while Lauren Gibb and Anna Lursen each added four. Abby Lawler chipped in eight rebounds and Gibb had four with Harvey blocking a pair of shots.

For the Lions, Jordan Mayland scored 15, Xada Johnson 13 and Reese Brownlee 12.

Baker and Flaherty were expected to be two starters alongside Kolacia this year before suffering injuries.

“Those three seniors have meant a lot to us coaches and the girls,” Tracy said. “Even though Klara and Katie can’t play, they have remained influences and have worked to help everybody get better.

“I’m very appreciative of all the work they have put in.”

St. Edmond heads to Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday to face the Cadets for a second time. Earlier this year, the Gaels suffered a 47-22 setback.
