Three-game week for St. Edmond squads

Another busy week is set for the St. Edmond basketball teams, as they will play three games in the span of four days.

The action starts on Tuesday when they Gaels travel to Southeast Valley before returning home for a doubleheader with South Hamilton. They conclude the stretch back on the road at Humboldt on Friday.

Tuesday’s games begin at 6 p.m. with the other two starting at 6:15 p.m.

St. Edmond (0-2 overall, 0-1 in North Central Conference) returned to the court last Friday after an extended break, falling at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. The Gaels opened the season in November with a setback to Perry.

Senior Katie Flaherty leads the way for SEHS, averaging 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a night. Sophomore Josie Harvey is right behind at 6.5 points, while senior Anna Kolacia produces five points and five rebounds per game.

For the Jaguars (1-1), Kenna Scott is averaging 16 points, Madison Lane 11.5 and Alex Kitchen nine. Kitchen leads the team with 14 rebounds per game and Scott is dishing out six assists a night.

Southeast Valley has claimed each of the past five meetings between the two.

South Hamilton (3-0) owns wins over Perry, Iowa Falls-Alden and Collins-Maxwell, winning each game by at least 14 points. Senior Hallee Feaker averages almost 24 points and eight rebounds, with Makena Galetich at 14 points, eight boards and five assists.

Humboldt (1-2, 0-1) earned its first win of the season over Iowa Falls-Alden, 64-41, after setbacks to Pocahontas Area and Gilbert, who are both ranked. Morgan Mann, a sophomore returning all-NCC selection, averages almost 20 points per game on 51 percent shooting, while junior Reagan Lee is at 10 points and eight rebounds a night.

The Gael boys (0-2, 0-1) are also searching for their first win after setbacks to Bishop Garrigan and Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. Sam Mericle made his debut against the Cowboys, scoring 20 points.

Jackson Palmer scored 14 in the opener, while JT Laufersweiler added 13.

For the Jaguars (0-1), they fell to West Bend-Mallard, 65-52. Justin Loseke scored 15 and Andrew Miller 10. The two have split their last eight meetings, with St. Edmond winning last year, 58-55.

South Hamilton (2-0) claimed wins over Perry and Iowa Falls-Alden to begin the season, as Teagan Trask and Reece Ricke are each averaging 13.5 points per game, with Ryland Ubben at 11.

Humboldt opened its season on Monday at Spirit Lake. The Wildcats have won six in a row vs. the Gaels, who lead the series 17-12 over the last 29 meetings.
