Busy week for Dodger squads

The Fort Dodge basketball teams will be road warriors this week, playing three games over four days in three different towns.

Up first will be a doubleheader at Des Moines Hoover on Tuesday, with a short trip to Humboldt set for Thursday. The week concludes Friday at Marshalltown.

Action on all three days begins with the girls contest at 6:15 p.m. and the boys to follow.

The Fort Dodge girls are coming off a 50-48 victory over Waterloo East, improving to 4-0 for the first time in 21 years. The Dodgers have allowed under 48 points in all four games.

Senior Paytene Hiveley leads the team, averaging 15 points and 15 rebounds a night. She is shooting 41 percent from the field, with classmate Lainey Maehl checking in at 11.5 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman sister LJ Maehl averages nine points.

Hoover (0-6) is led by junior Alayna Jarrett, who averages just under nine points per game. Alexia Jarrett, a senior, is averaging 10 rebounds per game, but the Huskies are averaging just 16 points per game as a team.

Hoover (2-2) is paced by Chase Henderson, as the senior averages almost 20 a night. Classmate Elijah Vos is right behind at 14.5.

The Wildcats (2-0) have scored over 80 points in both games they have played this year, with senior Will Orness, 12th-grader Joshua Thurm and junior Evan Hatcher all averaging at least 14.5 points. Orness is also the leading rebounder.
