Road win for Dodger swimmers at M’Town

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls swim team started to build momentum for the stretch run of the season by posting a 101-82 win over Marshalltown here on Tuesday.

The Dodgers picked up eight event victories, led by the trio of Eileen Fierke, Hailey Vogel and Julia Eastman.

Fierke, a senior, took gold in the 200 freestyle (2:04.74) and the 100 freestyle (55.58). Vogel, a sophomore, prevailed in the 50 freestyle (25.36) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.25). Eastman, a Southeast Valley sophomore, earned first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (1:03.78) and 100 backstroke (1:05.69).

Raegan Wooldrige, a junior at Manson Northwest Webster, was also victorious in the 200 individual medley (2:29.14). And the 200 medley relay quartet of Vogel, Wooldridge, Eastman and senior Makenna Kammerer hit the wall first in 2:01.03.

“Honestly, everyone performed well,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “It was a really great night for us to build some confidence, especially coming off the Ames meet, which can be kind of demoralizing.

“We want to finish the year strong. We looked tired, which is normal for this time of the season. But we were still able to get the job done and pick up a (dual) win.”

Junior varsity golds came from Rebekah Nelson (200 freestyle), Emily Dawson (100 backstroke), Claire Thompson (100 breaststroke), the 400 freestyle relay (Ella Champagne, Annabell Wolff, Emma Winter and Nelson) and the 200 medley relay (Catalina Elizondo, Madison Sullivan, Champagne and Thompson).

The Dodgers return to action at Carroll on Thursday.
