Humboldt defeats Dodger volleyball squad
HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt volleyball team didn’t panic after a precarious start against Fort Dodge on Tuesday, surging ahead to win the final three sets and the match.
The Wildcats (15-8 overall) bested the Dodgers (6-15) by scores of 19-25, 25-10, 25-18 and 25-15 on the program’s Senior Night and extend their winning streak to eight.
Humboldt honored 12th graders Darby DeWinter, Addie Thompson, Jennika Beach, Livvy Becker, Shelbie Heinz and Kayla Gieber by securing another victory. The Wildcats were 29-7 and North Central Conference champions a year ago, while also going 33-4 in 2020 and 30-6 in 2019.
Thompson has been the squad’s statistical leader, with Beach, Becker, Gieber and Heinz also serving as regular starters. Humboldt hasn’t lost since a quartet of setbacks in mid-September at the Dike-New Hartford tournament to host and top-ranked (2A) D-NH, fourth-rated (2A) Denver, No. 8 (3A) Osage and No. 13 (1A) Dunkerton.
The Wildcats’ lone North Central Conference loss came to league frontrunner Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.
Fort Dodge was coming off a Senior Night win over Des Moines East on Monday. The Dodgers are at the Indianola Tournament this coming weekend.
