Jaeschke defends Gowrie Open title

GOWRIE — Defending champion Cole Jaeschke of Fort Dodge defeated Eddie Doyle in a one-hole playoff to retain his title at the Gowrie Open 4th of July golf tournament on Monday.

Jaeschke — a former Prairie Valley standout — and Doyle — an ex-St. Edmond all-stater — were tied after 27 holes at 106. Jaeschke carded a 71-35 to Doyle’s 70-36.

It’s the third Gowrie Open title for Jaeschke, who also prevailed in 2012. The 2010 PVHS graduate grew up in Moorland. He recently moved back to Fort Dodge with his wife — 2011 Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Chelsie (Crouse) Jaeschke — and their two children from Jefferson.

Jaeschke is a former Upper Iowa University quarterback.

Austin Erickson (70-37–107) was third, followed by Tyler Tiffany (73-35–108).

A total of 81 players participated in the event.
