Six more national qualifiers for Tritons

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Iowa Central track and field team took part in the Mule Relays hosted by the University of Central Missouri on Friday.

The Tritons earned six new national qualifiers and had two athletes place in the Top-10 in program history.

Securing bids to nationals were Chloe Garcia Grafing (5,000), Zinash Valen (5,000), Robin Aguilar-Gonzalez (1,500), Aspel Kiprob (5,000), Hunter Klimek (5,000) and Ayenew Devany (5,000).

Yared Kidane now ranks fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 3:51.72, while Kiprob is ninth in the 5,000 in 14:45.33.

Kidane won the 800 and was the 1,500 runner-up, while Hayden Cobbs was fourth in the 200 and sixth in the 100. Aries Scott (high jump), Chot Chotyiel (long jump) and Terry McNeill Jr. (110 hurdles) all finished fifth. James MacKey Jr. was sixth in the discus and 10th in the shot put.

Kiprob finished seventh in the 5,000, Aguilar-Gonzalez seventh in the 1,500 and Tafari Bishop eighth in the 400.

Earning Top-20 finishes for the Tritons were Emma Seidel, Lexi Wood, Nyadhol Thichiot, Jade Durfey, Grafing, Brady Hogan, Isaiah Nebbe, Bishop, Klimek, Devany and Trae Corby.

“Our students made sure the drive to Warrensburg was well worth it. They continued to build into the outdoor campaign and came away with national qualifiers and many personal and season bests,” Iowa Central head coach Nick Ekel said. “Each meet from this weekend out gets a little bigger. Our students are up for the challenge.”

Iowa Central heads to Iowa City on Saturday, April 23 for the Musco Twilight.
