MASON CITY — There was no denying the Iowa Central volleyball team here Wednesday night.

With the chance to close out an unbeaten run through the ICCAC, the second-ranked Tritons quickly swept North Iowa Area.

Scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-10.

Iowa Central (38-1 overall, 9-0 in league) claimed its fourth consecutive conference title in the process, improving to 33-1 during that time against Div. II league schools. The Tritons will host the Region XI-A Tournament this weekend with the opportunity to secure a second straight bid to the NJCAA Div. II Championships.

“It was a great match,” Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. “I thought NIACC came out and played really well. Grace Tobin is such a solid hitter and she made us really focus on slowing her down. Our players did a great job of finding her on the court and putting up a good block or making a big dig. Offensively, our OHs had a super efficient night and it was great to see them make some big plays.

“We clinched our fourth straight conference championship, and to do that with the talent level that the ICCAC has every year is really special. This group is such a focused, determined and hard working team. They set their mind to something and they do what it takes to get it done. I’m excited to see how they respond this postseason and I think they’re ready to go for this weekend.”

Katilyn Steffes had 17 kills with Jori Hajek adding 11 and Angel Baylark seven, including the final point of the match. Haley Alharithy added six and Brooke Dobson four.

“Going undefeated in our conference, where we have some ranked teams, really means a lot to all of us,” Steffes said. “We’ve all worked hard to get where we are now and are ready for the postseason.”

Alesha Johnson had 42 assists, Baylyn Johnson 13 digs and Steffes added nine digs. Baylyn Johnson also had three serving aces.

“It’s exciting to gain another one, especially for the coaches,” Alesha Johnson said. “It’s nice to bring another title to the school, but we’re not done yet.”

The Tritons are the first Div. II team to win four consecutive league titles since the conference merged from two divisions to one. Since 2012, Iowa Central has won five overall, including three unbeaten seasons.

“This means a lot to us,” Alharithy said. “It’s extra special for us ‘super sophomores’ that we have three straight conference titles. This season has been a tough schedule at times, but we found a way to fight through each conference game and pull out a win.”

Over the last three seasons, the Tritons have posted an overall record of 93-11. They entered the night ranked in the Top-3 in the country in kills, assists and blocks.
