Iowa Western defeats Triton women

COUNCIL BLUFFS — For the second time in a week, the Iowa Central women’s soccer team battled with fifth-ranked Iowa Western.

In the end, it wasn’t quite enough to pull the upset and advance in the Region XI Tournament, as the Reivers posted a 3-0 victory here Tuesday.

Iowa Central ends the season 4-9 overall with wins over Hawkeye, Scott, Southeastern and Iowa Lakes.

“I’m just so proud of the girls and the effort they gave,” Iowa Central head coach Rilee Miller said. “We took so much from that match with Iowa Western last week and were right in it again. I thought we played an incredible first half, but their depth just caught up to us.”

Anna Hall gave Iowa Western a 1-0 lead with a goal just before halftime. Ella Pelletier and Barbara Russo added goals in the second half as the Reivers attempted 27 shots with 16 being on goal.

Isabella Chianta turned in another strong performance in net, recording 13 saves.

“She has grown into an incredible keeper,” Miller said. “Iowa Western puts a lot of pressure on you as a defense, but our girls hung in there and continued to fight.”

Iowa Western will face Indian Hills on Saturday afternoon for the regional championship.
