Gaels edge Warriors

The St. Edmond baseball team outlasted North Union in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at Rogers Park.

Grant Heldorfer picked up the win on the mound and went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Gaels. Emanuel Perry, Peyton Scott and Joe Li all added two hits each.

Heldorfer also drove in three runs with a double and a triple, with Perry knocking in a pair.

“It was good to get a win and hopefully build some momentum,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “Grant had a big night. He really drove the ball. And he pitched pretty well. It was also good to get Manny (Perry) back on the mound and eat up some pitches, because these are long weeks and we need all the arms we can get.”

Freshman Hayden Derrig recorded the save for the Gaels, who return to action at Iowa Falls-Alden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

“Iowa Falls is playing well, so we’ll have to be ready,” Szalat said. “We only committed two errors (Tuesday), which is step in the right direction. Now we just need to be more consistent defensively and not give teams extra outs.”
