Gaels lose tight contest

The St. Edmond girls tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Iowa Falls-Alden here Tuesday night.

Leah Neverman, Sydney Engels and Anna Kolacia each had wins in singles, with the doubles team of Neverman and Engels adding a victory.

Neverman and Engels each won 8-0, Kolacia posted an 8-5 victory, and the pair of Neverman and Engels won 8-2.

“I’m super proud of the girls,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “We were down a varsity regular, which moved everyone up in the lineup. They all played hard and never gave up.

“We also had a singles match start down 5-0 and come back before falling 8-6. Our other doubles were also very close.”

In junior varsity action, Kayleigh Smith and Marlo Lochray earned a doubles victory while Emma Barwin earned a win in singles.
