Tritons take three from Bears

BOONE – The 17th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team took three of four from Des Moines Area here this weekend.

After sweeping the Bears on Saturday (9-3, 4-2), the Tritons scored a split on Sunday, winning 5-1 and falling 9-8.

John Klein struck out six to start the series over seven innings with Nate Mortimer and Jack Sievers each collecting two hits. Mortimer, Ben DeTaeye and Max Holy had an RBI each.

DeTaeye and Kai Reum combined on a three-hitter in the second game, striking out 10. Mortimer had a three-run homer and Ryan Wickman two hits with two runs.

On Sunday, Easton Dermody picked up a win on the mound, striking out seven and allowing just two hits. Brock Johnson was 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run with Devin Hurdle and Derek Key adding two hits each.

Wickman had three hits and drove in two runs with two steals in the final game with Hurdle recording two hits and Mortimer two doubles. Sievers had a pair of RBI.

Iowa Central hosts Northeast on Wednesday.
