Triton women push Kirkwood

With regionals right around the corner, the Iowa Central women wrapped up their regular season by pushing second-ranked Kirkwood to the final whistle here Saturday evening.

The Eagles picked up their fifth consecutive win, 68-59, inside Hodges Fieldhouse on Sophomore Night.

Prior to the tip, Iowa Central (11-8 overall, 11-8 in ICCAC) honored sophomores Jordan Engbrecht, Jessica Jackson, Isabell West and Jacie Stephenson. West had her 24th career double-double, scoring 13 points with 19 rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Autumn Dykstra added 13 points, Carley West and Nevaeh Galloway each had 10, and Engbrecht nine.

“The sophomores have been tremendous leaders on and off the court,” Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. “They have done everything we’ve asked of them this season and more.”

Kortney Drake led Kirkwood (19-1, 19-1) with 22 points while Kemara Watson added 12.

“We were right there with them,” Ortmeier said. “We’d get it down and they’d hit a big shot. But I thought we did a much better job on defense.

“We’ve really been playing better on that end of the floor as of late.”

The Tritons had their seven-game win streak snapped with the loss, but will still host Tuesday in the regional opener at Hodges Fieldhouse.
