LANSING, Mich. — A day after watching the men hit the lanes, the Iowa Central women’s bowling team took to action here at the NJCAA Championships.

Singles and doubles, along with the start of five-person, were played for the Tritons, who came away with a handful of Top-10 finishes at the Royal Scot Bowling Center.

In singles, Allison Christenson and Korrissa Johnson each rolled 608s to tie for third overall. Christenson had games of 236-181-191 with Johnson rolling 183-235-190. Barton’s Taylor Cessna was first with a 629 series.

Madison Ross finished seventh overall after putting together a 598 series while Cassadey Lee was 20th with a 507.

“We really showed a lot of heart and determination,” Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. “Even when we had some tough moments, the guys and girls battled through that adversity and shined.

“We positioned ourselves nicely to really contend for two national team titles on Friday.”

Johnson and Hannah Waldren were third in doubles with a 1,057 thanks to a 576 total by Johnson and a 481 from Waldren. Olivia Nolte and Leah Sanck placed fifth overall with a 1,053 as Nolte rolled a 499 and Sanck a 554.

Hawkeye’s Kassidy Genken and Hannah Axline won the title with a 1,098.

Overall, Iowa Central is second with a total of 7,900, just 51 pins behind leader Barton. Ross (160-166-213), Christenson (144-199-183), Johnson (147-201-189) and Sanck (188-170-171) rolled all three team games with Lee (162-178) joining in two.

The Triton men, who finished the opening day in fourth, climbed to second overall after the first round of five-person with a 2,861. Iowa Central has a team total of 8,334, 137 pins behind Hawkeye and ahead of Iowa Western.

Raymond Wiegand rolled all three games Thursday, posting scores of 199-234-223. Dale Weaver (194-175-160) and Jordan Pelant (201-191-243) did as well with Nathan Hansen (174-200) and Justin Graves (199) also competing.

Friday will see the second three-game block of five-person take to the lanes along with Baker’s.

“I feel like as a program, Baker’s is an area we have always done well in,” Haden said. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum going (from Thursday) through Friday.”
