Local flair to Triton football game vs. GVJV

Several familiar faces will greet the Iowa Central football team here on Saturday when they host the Grand View junior varsity squad.

Kickoff is set for noon from Dodger Stadium.

The 10th-ranked Tritons (1-1 overall) are coming off a 34-20 setback to No. 6 Iowa Western. Along with this game, they also play Ellsworth before a rematch with the Reivers in Council Bluffs on April 24.

But first, Iowa Central will take on one of the top NAIA programs in the country.

Grand View is currently ranked second in the country.

“We got back to fundamentals in practice,” Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. “We had some physical practices and just really hit the basics hard.

“We had several opportunities against Iowa Western and didn’t take advantage of them. When you do that against good teams, you pay the ultimate price.”

Brady Pope leads the Triton offense with 266 yards passing and a pair of scores. Jadon Washington has rushed for 139 yards and Madison Ridgeway has 12 receptions for 94 yards.

Grand View’s varsity went 6-0 during the fall, scoring at least 35 points in all six games including 70-0 and 55-0 victories. The Viking junior varsity played Ellsworth earlier this spring, falling 31-14.

Former Tritons Andy Jepson, Jon Pilcher, E.J. Peterson and Adam Dutcher are all on the Grand View coaching staff. Ex-Fort Dodge Senior High standouts Drake Miller, Logan Finowski, Austin Lee and Levi Egli, Humboldt grad Tyler Vitzthum and Algona preps Cole Lewis and Gavin Meints are all expected to play Saturday.
