Another meet, another title for the Humboldt boys track squad.

The Wildcats were crowned champions in Class B at the 62nd Dodger Relays on Monday, winning their third team gold in the past week.

Head coach Greg Wickett’s group also clinched victories at the Umstead Relays in Eagle Grove last Tuesday, and their home Charlie Bunn Relays on Friday.

St. Edmond took third, and Eagle Grove was fourth.

Lance Coon (400-meter dash, 54.86), Nolan Jergens (800-meter run, 2:14.50) and Caden Matson (110-meter hurdles, 15.81) were individual winners for Humboldt. In the field events, Coon (long jump, 20-10.5) and Ben Kuehnast (shot put, 41-7) prevailed.

The Wildcats took the 4×400 (Matson, Cale Hundertmark, Quinton Orr, Eric Wittrock in 3:32.78), distance medley (Aiden Christensen, Hundertmark, Wittrock, Orr in 3:35.96) and the shuttle hurdle (Coon, Christensen, Matson, Jacob Larrabee in 1:05.78) relays.

Gael senior Kase Baker was the 200-meter dash champ in 23.04. St. Edmond’s 4×100 quartet of Grant Heldorfer, Anthony Lacina, Sean Flattery and Baker won in 46.29, as did the 4×200 (Cael Kolacia, Parker Oswald, Lacina and Baker in 1:37.51), 4×800 (Drew Szalat, Hayden Mayer, Aaron Lursen and Grant Heldorfer in 8:58.65) and sprint medley (Kolacia, Oswald, Baker and Flattery in 1:42.22).

“I think there are definitely some positives to be taken away from (last night),” SEHS head coach Donn Larson said. “Initially, we were kind of frustrated by some of our performances, especially in front of the home crowd. But after taking a step back and keeping things in perspective, we had a lot of firsts and seconds. It was a terrific experience to go up against the big schools.

“This is a fast meet with a quick turnaround — the fastest we’ll see all season. So that really pushed us and gave us a good workout. You have to be competitive, rest up (between events) and be competitive again. That’s something we can learn from. When you run hard and push yourself (despite being) tired — that’s often when you improve the most.”

St. Edmond’s Aaron Lursen was second in the 800 (2:15.11), as was Hayden Mayer in the 1600 (5:07.72). St. Edmond’s 4×400 (Heldorfer, Kolacia, Flattery and Cayne Reed) was also a runner-up in 3:45.86, along with the sprint medley (Braydon Smith, Lacina, Kolacia and Heldorfer in 3:59.40) and shuttle hurdle (Isaac Landwehr, Thomas Cosgrove, Szalat and Smith in 1:11.47) relays.

Eagle Grove’s Blake Morgan (200, 24.03) and Derrecklee Harms (400, 55.09) were silver medalists, along with the Eagles’ 4×200-meter relay quartet of Roberto Calles, Nick Huntley, Drake Canavan and Morgan (1:40.23).

The Gaels return to action in Manson on Thursday.
