Iowa Central picks up road sweep

ESTHERVILLE — Haley Alharithy reached a career milestone and the fifth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team picked up another sweep here Tuesday night.

The Tritons rolled past Iowa Lakes in three. Scores were 25-8, 25-14 and 25-17.

With four block assists, Alharithy surpassed 200 career blocks in her Iowa Central (12-2 overall, 11-2 in ICCAC) career. She ranks in the Top-10 in school history in the category.

“I’ve always been motivated to beat records and to try and be the best I can be,” Alharithy said. “I’m really proud of the team for pulling out another win even though it’s been tough adjusting to new things the past few days with players missing.

“I think everyone stepped up and played their part when it was most needed.”

Angel Baylark led the Tritons with nine kills while Molly McCauley added eight. Kealey Anderson had six kills, Alharithy five and Bailey Dugan four.

Alesha Johnson recorded 29 assists with four digs, Baylyn Johnson had 14 digs and Dugan three serving aces.

“We started the night great,” Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. “Our first set was super clean, which was a big focus for us going in. We had a handful of girls that just played well.

“Molly and Angel were super efficient for us in the front row. We tried a few different lineups and the girls did a great job of staying focused and minimizing Iowa Lakes’ runs.”

The Tritons had 12 block assists as a team with McCauley also recording four and Alesha Johnson two.

Iowa Central has recorded 10 straight-set victories this season including two in a row. They remain on the road, heading to North Iowa Area on Thursday night.
