Dodgers host DM East, travel to Marshalltown

The Fort Dodge basketball teams will have home and away contests this week to finish up the regular season.

The Dodger girls (5-9 overall) will have a chance to finish on a four-game win streak. They’ll host Des Moines East (0-10) tonight and finish up at Marshalltown (1-14) on Friday.

The Fort Dodge boys (1-12) will face East (1-9) and end the week with Marshalltown (3-11). The boys also have games at Valley (11-3) and at Des Moines Roosevelt (4-8).

All games will begin at 6:15 p.m. with the girls. The boys will follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.

The contest against Marshalltown will be decided later in the week as the Bobcats are dealing with COVID issues.

The Dodger girls have knocked off Des Moines Lincoln and Des Moines Hoover to start the win streak. Against Hoover on Saturday, Tory Bennett led five players in double figures with 14 points. Jalen Adams, Aleah Pommer and Tristin Doster had 11 each. Ellie White had 10 points.

East has struggled finding an offensive rhythm this season. The Scarlets have scored 20 or less in eight games and less than 10 in three. They are coming off a 91-2 loss to Des Moines Roosevelt.

The Bobcats have lost five straight games. Paige Wertzberger is Marshalltown’s leading scorer at 11 per contest. Des Moines East is led by Alea Hoof at 10 per game.

Tory Bennett (10.4 ppg) and Aleah Pommer (10.1) are the Dodgers leading scorers.

The Dodger boys are coming off a tough 61-46 loss to Des Moines Hoover. Averey Martin led the Dodger with 10 points and Drake Callon and Bradley Vodraska had eight each.

East has lost three straight games and is led in scoring by Tyron Wright (11.6.).

Marshalltown has lost two straight games. They defeated Mason City 69-45 on Jan. 29.

The Bobcats have three players averaging double figures, led by Armonniey Thomas (16.8).
