Fort Dodge basketball teams hit the road

The Fort Dodge basketball teams start a three-game road trip on Tuesday at Southeast Polk.

The Dodger girls (3-8 overall) tip at 6:15 p.m. against the fourth-ranked Rams (9-2). The FDSH boys (1-9) face the No. 9 Rams (8-2) at approximately 7:45 p.m.

On Friday, the Fort Dodge girls will look for a season split at Ames (6-6). The Dodger boys also face the Little Cyclones (8-3) looking for revenge.

The Ram girls have one three straight games and seven of eight. They are led in the scoring column by University of South Dakota recruit Grace Larkins, who is averaging 18.5 points. Brooke Woodyard is scoring 11.6 per contest.

The Little Cyclones knocked off the Dodger girls 55-51 earlier this season. The Dodgers had a good first half, taking a 28-21 lead into the lockerroom.

Tory Bennett led the Dodgers with a season-high 25 points.

The Div. I duo of Caroline Waite and Ashley Iiams both had big games for Ames the first time around. Waite, who will attend Bradley, had 28 points. Iiams, a Drake recruit, added 19.

Waite and Iiams are averaging 23.3 and 17.5 points, respectively.

Bennett leads the Dodgers at 9.9 points per game. Aleaha Pommer is next in line at 8.4. Both are juniors.

The Ram boys started the season with four wins, followed by two defeats. They’ve now strung four straight wins together to re-enter the Class 4A Top 10.

Chase Bartlett is leading Southeast Polk at 13.6 points per night. James Glenn is averaging 12 and Boone Bain (10.9) is also in double figures.

Sophomore Riley Edwards, a former Dodger who transferred to SEP when his family moved to the Des Moines area, is averaging 7.9 points off the bench as a top reserve.

In the last meeting with the Dodger boys, Ames won, 56-31. One of state’s top Div. I prospects, Tamin Lipsey, led the way with 15 points.

Lipsey is averaging 18.8 points per game and Keyshaun Brooks is scoring 11.3.

Averey Martin had 12 for FDSH.

Martin, a senior, is leading the Dodgers in scoring at 12 points per night. Junior Bradley Vodraska is scoring 8.6 per game.

Vodraska had a season-high 16 in the Dodgers’ last outing against Ankeny.
