Ashley Beaumont isn’t worried about wins or losses at this point.

The Fort Dodge boys swim coach is just looking for improvement from her Dodgers each time they hit the pool.

With only two full weeks of practice under their belt, the Dodgers hosted a triangular in the FDSH pool against a competitive Carroll squad and Spencer.

Fort Dodge lost to Spencer, 88-66, and fell to Carroll 110-50. Carroll picked up the sweep with a 97-59 victory over Spencer.

“I was pretty impressed with our times overall,” said Beaumont. “We started a week late and haven’t been able to consistently practice as a full group. Most (active) teams have been in the pool for three weeks now.”

Sophomore Kevin O’Connor came away with the highest finish for the Dodgers, earning second in the 100 breaststroke. O’Connor touched the wall in 1:17.96.

Carroll’s Ryan Burbank (1:13.64) grabbed gold.

Burbank, was one of two double winners on the evening, also earning gold in the 500 freestyle (5:52.22) by 10 seconds.

Senior Austin Jorgensen picked up a bronze finish in the 200 individual medley for FDSH in 2:25.98. Carroll’s Kyle Sundrup (2:15.48) was the winner, more than seven seconds ahead of Spencer’s Reid Tigges (2:23.67).

“I was impressed with how they went out there and swam,” Beaumont said. “We just want to see each guy improve every time we’re out there.”

The Dodger quartet of Colby Doebel, O’Connor, Austin Jorgensen, and Braydon Smith were third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.49. This event marked Spencer’s lone relay victory, as they touched the wall in 1:49.91, more than five seconds ahead of Carroll.

“I told the guys, with how crazy things are right now, you just have to go out and swim each meet as if this was your last,” Beaumont said. “They came out of the pool looking tired, so I knew they gave it their all.

“I was also impressed with my newer swimmers who came out and were competitive against one of the top teams in the state (Carroll).”

The Tigers won eight of the 11 events. Trevor Danner was a double winner for Carroll, earning victory in the 50 freestyle (21.98) and the 100 freestyle (48.93). The Tigers also captured the 200 freestyle (1:33.61) and the 400 freestyle (3:35.76).

Spencer had two individual victories to go along with their win the 200 medley relay.

The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday at the Boone Invitational.
