Gaels sharp in return to court

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond volleyball team showed very few signs of rust after a two-week quarantine period here on Monday, returning to the court to score a four-set win over Hampton-Dumont.

Scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-17 in favor of the Gaels.

“I am just so proud of these girls,” SEHS head coach Dee Huss said. “They came out and played with so much heart. You could tell they were just tuned in.

“We served very aggressively and really took advantage of their weaknesses.”

Kierstin Clark was 20-for-21 serving with eight aces. She added six kills, seven digs and 34 assists.

Aleah Anderson was 22-for-23 from the service line with four aces, while contributing eight kills and six digs as well.

Lexi Mericle finished with seven kills, four blocks and only one missed serve. Leah Neverman tallied 11 kills, four blocks, and was perfect serving.

Kacey Kruthoff chipped in seven kills, nine digs and four blocks. Mya McClain had a perfect serving night and came up with eight digs.

Emma Alstott made her first varsity start and recorded five kills.

“It was just an all-around team effort. We just stay focused on what we can control,” Huss said. “We really played loose.”

St. Edmond returns to action on Tuesday night at Humboldt.
