SEVENTH HEAVEN

GILBERT — It seemed every time Trey Mathis touched the ball on Friday that he scored a touchdown.

Mathis scored on one-fourth of his 28 carries, reaching the end zone seven times in Webster City’s (6-0 overall, 4-0 in district) 54-13 victory over Gilbert.

Mathis finished the night with 214 yards and six rushing touchdowns to go along with one receiving touchdown. Mathis scored on runs of one, two, 16, 10, four and six. He caught a 22-yard scoring pass from Chase Rattenborg.

Connor Hanson had the only other touchdown not scored by Mathis on a six-yard run.

Rattenborg finished with 90 yards on 15 carries. Hisler had 11 totes for 84 yards as the Lynx ran for 414 yards.

The defense had four sacks and held Gilbert to three rushing yards.

Jamin Stuhr had seven tackles and a sack. Freshman Jaxon Cherry had two sacks for the Lynx.

Six in a row for Jaguars

GOWRIE — Eighth-ranked Southeast Valley won their sixth straight game and are one victory away from claiming a district championship.

The Jaguars (6-0 overall, 4-0 district) knocked off Clarion-Goldfield/Dows 38-20 on Friday night.

Junior Lathe Muench had another big night for the Jaguars, rushing for three touchdowns. Muench now has 11 scores on the season and 19 in his career.

Munech rushed for 108 yards, while Kruse threw for 83 yards.

Junior quarterback Kolson Kruse ran for two touchdowns. Kruse also ran in two two-point conversions and connected with Kaleb Scott on another. Muench also had a two-point score.

Mustangs fall short

NEWELL — Sixth-ranked Newell-Fonda came up short in its upset bid of No. 3 Remsen St. Mary’s on Friday night.

The Mustangs (5-1 overall, 4-1 district) dropped a 30-28 contest.

Gabe Sievers had two rushing touchdowns, scoring from five and 12 yards out. He also had a 23-yard touchdown pass to Trey Jungers.

Mason Dicks threw a two-yard scoring strike to Hunter Christianson.

Dicks led the ground attack with 13 carries for 53 yards.

Christianson had 16 tackles, while Ryan Greenfield had 10.

Golden Bears blank Cougars

MANSON — Bishop Garrigan’s Kellen Murphy made it a habit of reaching the end zone on Friday night, as the senior scored four touchdowns in the Golden Bears 35-0 victory over Manson Northwest Webster on Friday night.

Murphy finished the night with 76 yards on eight carries. He scored from one, 51, and eight yards out. He connected with Angelo Winkel for a 16-yard touchdown.

Cal Birkey had a one-yard touchdown run as well.

Derrick Kirsch led the Golden Bears (2-4 overall, 2-2 district) with 158 yards on 22 carries.

Kirsch led the Golden Bear defense with eight tackles and an interception. Maren had five tackles and two sacks two go along with the five extral points. Sean Davis had two sacks. Joe Trainer had six tackles and an interception.

Ian Koenig led the Cougars (0-5, 0-3) with 40 yards on eight carries.
