SWEA CITY — The St. Edmond softball team hit the ball well at North Union on Thursday night, but they couldn’t come up with the timely delivery.

The Gaels (3-8 overall) dropped the first contest, 7-3, in a continuation of a postponed game from Rogers Park earlier this season. The Warriors (8-2) then turned back St. Edmond 7-4 in the finale.

“They are a good ballclub,” said SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun. “They hit the ball well and had some timely bunts and played great small ball.”

In the first contest, senior Jocy Timmerman was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Kaili Henning also had a double, while Ella Vratny drove in two runs.

“Honestly, I felt we came out tired and lethargic in the first game,” Shirbroun said. “We weren’t ready to play.”

The Gaels out-hit the Warriors 12-11 in the nightcap. St. Edmond took a 4-3 advantage heading into the fourth, before the Warriors went ahead for good.

“We hit the ball well (in the second game),” Shirbroun said. “We just couldn’t knock anybody in. The timely hits weren’t there for us.

“We had fun and competed, though.”

Gracie Harvey and Timmerman had three hits each. Timmerman tallied a double, scored and drove in a run.

Kacey Kruthoff, Alyson Nieland, and Ashlyn Headlee had two hits each. Kruthoff had a double and drove in a run.

The Gaels are back in action on Monday when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden. Junior varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m., with varsity beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m.
