Dodgers take two at Hoover

DES MOINES — The top-ranked Fort Dodge softball team improved their win streak to six games on Monday, easily sweeping a doubleheader at Des Moines Hoover.

The Dodgers (20-3 overall) took the opener, 15-0 in three innings, and won the nightcap 16-1 in four.

Des Moines Hoover, who won the Class 4A state championship in 2018, has no players left from the title team.

“I talked to their coach about it and they are completely rebuilding,” said FDSH head coach Andi Adams. “It just shows how quickly things can turn around and how much you have to appreciate the moment.

“We are clicking and playing well together.”

The Dodgers had 32 hits on the night. They went 32-for-46 at the plate in the twinbill, and added 20 stolen bases.

Seven Dodgers recorded at least two hits each in the opener, as the Dodgers took a 10-0 lead after two innings played.

“We are hitting the ball really well,” Adams said. “We are reading the ball on the bases and know what we expect.”

Haley Wills 2-for-3 with three runs driven in. Tristin Doster and Tory Bennett had two hits and two RBI each, with Doster recording a double.

Jalen Adams, Loghen Schnetzer, Martyne Lowrey and Sophia Klinger all had two hits and an RBI.

Klinger, Bennett and Martyne Lowrey had two stolen bases each as the Dodgers swiped nine.

Adams (12-1) picked up the victory with a shortened perfect game. She didn’t allow a baserunner and struck out six of the nine batters she faced.

In the nightcap, Doster, Maia Davis, and Martyne Lowrey had three hits each. Doster hit her seventh home run of the season and drove in four runs.

Lowrey had two doubles and drove in four runs. Davis drove in a run and had a double.

Schnetzer, Bennett and Wills had two hits each. Bennett had two doubles. Adams, Schnetzer and Wills drove in two runs each.

Wills also had four stolen bases.

Wills (8-2) picked up the victory behind a four-hitter. She struck out four and walked zero.

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Webster City. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
