HUMBOLDT — The second-ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt softball squad continued its early winning ways on Friday with a 15-5 triumph over St. Edmond.

The Wildcats (3-0 overall, 2-0 in the North Central Conference) plated six runs in the first inning and seven more in the second to defeat the Gaels for the second time this week. St. Edmond did take a 2-0 lead early and plated three more runs in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough.

“We only had two hits against (all-state senior Wildcat pitcher Ellie) Jacobson the first time around (on Monday), so it was good to see the offense picking up some momentum again (on Friday),” Gael head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “We showed our youth early on, not making some of the plays we should have and falling behind more.

“It’s difficult to play catch-up against a team like that. Our goal is to continue to get better each game. We did that with our bats (last night).”

Alexis Hansen was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI for Humboldt. Carlie Thompson went 3-for-4, and Mady Lange homered.

Jacobson and Lange had two hits a piece. Jacobson struck out nine in the victory.

Kalli Henning was 2-for-2 at the plate to lead St. Edmond, and catcher Kacey Kruthoff went deep.

The Wildcats defeated the Gaels earlier this week, 11-0.

The Gaels return to action on Monday at Algona. The Wildcats are back on the diamond Monday as well, visiting Hampton-Dumont.
