Gaels welcome Humboldt on the hardwood

THE TIP: Action begins in this North Central Conference doubleheader at 6:15 p.m. with the girls contest inside the SEHS gym. Boys are scheduled to tip at 7:45 p.m.

GIRLS PROBABLES: St. Edmond (0-6 overall, 0-4 in NCC): Cambrie McBride, 9.0, sr.; Emma Neverman, 1.3, sr.; Leah Neverman, 9.3, jr.; Aubrey Bemrich, 0.0, jr.; Gracie Harvey, 4.0, soph.

Humboldt (3-4, 1-3): Jori Hajek, 7.9, jr.; Bae Arnold, 5.2, jr.; Jayda Hoefer, 6.0, jr.; Mady Lange, 13.4, sr.; Kendal Clark, 10.3, sr.

LAST MEETING: Behind 12 points from Ashlyn Clark, the Wildcats posted a 44-41 victory over the Gaels last year. Humboldt was 21-for-33 from the free throw line in the win. St. Edmond did post a 39-35 victory in the first encounter, as Erin Flattery scored 10 with Cambrie McBride, Macey Mason and Brea McNeil adding eight each.

LAST TIME OUT: St. Edmond suffered a second consecutive loss to a state tournament contender, falling to Clear Lake, 77-18. Humboldt dropped a 53-42 decision at home to Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS: Both Mady Lange and Kendal Clark claimed titles in the girls division at the Don Miller Wrestling Invitational prior to the Christmas break. They also combined for 25 points vs. the Cowgirls last month. Humboldt owns wins over Manson Northwest Webster, Iowa Falls-Alden and Eagle Grove this year, with two of them coming on the road.

BOYS PROBABLES: St. Edmond (1-5, 1-3): Connor Bocken, 12.0, sr.; Jed Tracy, 5.4, sr.; Cael Kolacia, 5.0, jr.; Hayden Mayer, 9.0, soph.; Brock Stanek, 1.2, jr.

Humboldt: (4-2, 1-2): Gabe Gidel, 13.0, jr.; Caden Matson, 7.3, soph.; Jacob Thurm, 11.0, sr.; Matt Miller, 6.0, sr.; Jamison Heinz, 11.3, sr.

LAST MEETING: The Gaels swept the season series, winning 66-60 and 80-74. Andrew Gibb scored 36 and 26 points in the two wins, with Calvin Carlson scoring a combined 39.

LAST TIME OUT: The Gaels dropped their fourth consecutive game, falling to Clear Lake, 62-32. The Wildcats had their two-game win streak snapped, falling to Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, 66-61.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS: Jamison Heinz, who has accepted a preferred walk-on role with the University of Iowa football team, missed the last two games before break with an injury. Jacob Thurm leads Humboldt with 18 made 3-pointers this year, and is also first in assists and steals.
