The defending state champion Fort Dodge girls bowling team captured the first of their main goals here Thursday, earning a share of the CIML Iowa Conference dual championship for the second consecutive season.

The Dodgers scored a 2,681-2,358 victory over Waukee on Senior Night at Ridgewood Lanes.

Leah Sanck recorded games of 206 and 224 to lead Fort Dodge (7-2 overall) with a 430 series, while Alexis Kenney added a 399 (227-172).

Aryssa Lumsden (358), Alexis Hanson (309), Kat Flores (267) and Samantha Brennan (182) rounded out the scoring.

“The girls just took care of business again,” Dodger head coach Nick Vinson said. “We shuffled things up a little with it being Senior Night, but a 2,681 is a really solid score. It was good for them to see that, even if they weren’t all at their best, we still have the talent to perform at this level.”

Brady Graves paced the FDSH boys with a 483 series behind games of 232 and 251. Tre Preston also cracked 400 with a 419, while Kaleb Anderson added a 396.

David Folsom (374), Gavin Strain (331) and Jacob Schroeder (320) completed the lineup.

“It’s tough to drop another close one on the boys side, but I keep reminding them to control what they can and show improvement,” Vinson said. “That’s all that matters in the end. You can’t do much about these (narrow setbacks). Brady and Tre did really well, which was encouraging. We’re getting there.”

Fort Dodge honored its seniors prior to the match including girls Brennan, Flores and Sanck, along with boys Folsom, Dean Meriweather, Preston, Schroeder and Strain.

The Fort Dodge junior varsity boys fell in a close matchup, 2,564-2,560. Carson Werning had a 446 and Jayden Ray followed with a 370.

The Dodger JV girls lost, 1,590-1,441. Ashleigh Starnes (238) and Katherine Berry (198) paced FDSH.

The Dodgers will host the JV portion of the CIML Iowa Conference Invitational on Wednesday. The next varsity action is at Ankeny on Feb. 10.
