Dodgers head to West Des Moines

THE ACTION: Wrestling action will begin at 9:30 a.m. in West Des Moines. The Dodgers will have a bye in the first round of the dual tournament and then will compete against Clarinda, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, Valley and Belle Plaine.

LAST TIME OUT: The Dodgers are in action for the first time since the Don Miller Invitational in their home gym. Fort Dodge won the tournament for the fifth consecutive time. Winning titles for the Dodgers were Lane Cowell, Drake Ayala, Carson Taylor, Brooks Cowell, Dreyzon Phillips, and Levi Egli. Brandon Mills, Kody Cook and Austin Lee finished second.

KEY FACTS: Fort Dodge is ranked fourth in IAwrestle’s dual team ranking and Valley is 10th. The Dodgers are rated No. 1 in The Predicaments poll.

DODGER RANKINGS: The Dodgers enter with nine ranked wrestlers. Rated for the Dodgers are, Max Bishop (No. 10 at 106), Lane Cowell (No. 5 at 113), Ayala (No. 1 at 120), Taylor (No. 2 at 126), Brooks Cowell (No. 6 at 132), Phillips (No. 3 at 138), Mills (No. 5 at 145), Lee (No. 9 at 182) and Egli (No. 2 at 195).

HE SAID IT: “We’re in a pretty good mindset right now and are ready to get back on the mat. We’ve had some productive practices. We couldn’t take a lot of time off, since we had a sorth break with competing on Jan. 4. So we just want to start competing again. We were open on this day and Valley was as well, so we contacted the other teams so we could get some more matches in.”

Rated for Lewis Central is Tanner Wink (No. 7 at 120), Tanner Higgins (No. 9 at 145). Clarinda’s Crew Howard is eighth at 220 pounds. Belle Plaine’s Ethan Allie is second at 220 pounds.
