BASKETBALL PREVIEW: St. Edmond at South Hamilton, vs. Webster City

THE TIP: Up first for the Gaels will be a girl/boy doubleheader in Jewell against South Hamilton Thursday night. On Friday, St. Edmond will host North Central Conference rival Webster City in another twinbill. Start time is 6:15 p.m. both nights.

LAST TIME OUT: The Gaels dropped a 78-30 decision to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Tuesday night. The Hawks picked up a 51-32 victory over Greene County. The Lynx stretched their win streak to four with a double-overtime victory vs. Algona, 75-68.

ABOUT THE HAWKS: Hailey Diersen leads South Hamilton in rebounds (66) and blocks (12). Aneesa Balderas has hit a team-high 16 three-pointers and Emma Lewis leads the way with 31 steals.

ABOUT THE LYNX: Taylor McKinney continues to add to her career scoring record for Webster City, leading the team this year in points, made 3-pointers, made field goals, steals and assists. Grace Hoversten has over 130 rebounds on the season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Gaels earned their third consecutive win, downing Hampton-Dumont/CAL, 59-49. The Hawks had their long conference win streak snapped by Greene County, 56-54. The Lynx are coming off a 62-42 loss to Algona.

ABOUT THE HAWKS: South Hamilton reached the Class 2A state tournament last year. Quinton Grove and Cade Balvanz were regulars on that team. Grove is also a state cross country and track medalist.

ABOUT THE LYNX: Webster City claimed the first meeting with St. Edmond, 54-50. Tyler Olson, who was an all-state football selection, leads the team in rebounds and steals, and is second in assists.
