Dodgers swim against Waukee

The Fort Dodge swim team had a tough task on Thursday night as they faced off against powerhouse Waukee in the Dodger pool.

The Dodgers (1-2 overall) lost 139-31 to the Warriors.

“We had to enter this meet with thinking about how could improve and drop our times,” said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. “So many of our guys had their best times. That is how we have to approach this season.

“I’m proud of the guys, because we had some big time drops and that puts them in a good mindset.”

The Dodgers grabbed three third-place finishes on the evening. The 200 medley relay team of Austin Jorgensen, Gage Riley, Demetri Grantham and Ryan Pineda clocked in at 2:04.31.

The quartet of Colby Doebel, Kevin O’Connor, Pineda and Grantham were also third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.78).

Grantham had the highest individual effort, placing third in the 100 butterfly (1:06.58).

Finishing fourth for the Dodgers was the 200 medley relay (Jorgensen, Riley, Grantham, Pineda), the 200 freestyle relay (Gage Riley, Jake Miller, Blake Castro, Aaron Amhof) and the 400 freestyle (Doebel, O”Connor, Jorgensen, Miller).

Individual fourth-place performers were Doebel (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), O’Connor (200 IM, 100 breaststroke), Jorgensen (500 freestyle) and Grantham (100 backstroke).

“I was happy with our times,” Beaumont said. “Colby, Ryan, Demetri, Gage and Austin had great efforts.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday at the Boone Invitational.
