FDSH grad Brayton signs with Team Honda

CHARLOTTE — Many racers never get to fulfill their life-long dream.

Justin Brayton is getting the chance to do just that twice.

Brayton, a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate, will compete for Team Honda HRC this year on the AMA Supercross series, the team announced recently.

Back in 2012, Brayton raced his factory Honda to a fourth place finish in the season-long points race. He recorded five podium finishes and six more Top-5 results that year.

“I’m beyond excited to be riding for factory Honda in the 2020 Supercross season,” Brayton said. “Riding with the team in 2012 was the achievement of a dream for me, and I had my best season so far that year. Now I feel like I’m living my dream all over again, just a little older and more experienced to be able to take full advantage of his opportunity.”

The 35-year-old Brayton comes from the Smartop/MotoConcepts/Bullfrog team where he raced for the past few years. He won at Daytona last year on one of the more challenging courses on the circuit.

Brayton is also a two-time Australian Supercross champion and will defend that title with his Penrite Honda team before coming back to the U.S. for the AMA series.

“We thought what a great fit it would be to have Justin come onboard just for Supercross,” said Brandon Wilson, American Honda’s Manager of Advertising and Motorcycle Sports. “He’s a Honda guy, and he understands our team structure and knows many staff members from his years on a Honda, which should allow for a smooth transition.

“He’s a veteran of the sport, with a wealth of knowledge, which should benefit our program on many levels.”

With Brayton focusing on the AMA Supercross series, Chase Sexton, an up-and-coming rider, will handle the AMA Pro Motocross series. The team also includes Ken Roczen.
