Dodger Stadium will be the site for a key opening district showdown between No. 4 (Class 4A) Fort Dodge and sixth-ranked Southeast Polk this Friday night.

Both teams moved up in the latest prep rankings after winning last week.

Algona remained third in 3A and South Central Calhoun stayed firm at No. 6 in 1A. Southeast Valley, Bishop Garrigan and Newell-Fonda are all receiving votes.

The Dodgers (4-0 overall) climbed two spots following their 36-10 victory over Carroll. Fort Dodge has scored at least 28 points in all four games this year and allowed a total of 38.

Senior Asle Thorson completed 13 of 22 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, including six connections with Tysen Kershaw for 179 yards and a score. Tyler Schreier also hauled in a TD, with Dayson Clayton going over the 100-yard mark once again.

Thorson, who received a preferred walk-on offer from Iowa State over the weekend, is completing almost 63 percent of his passes this year for 803 yards and 14 total touchdowns.

Kershaw, a University of South Dakota commit, has caught 20 passes for 303 yards with five touchdowns, with Clayton adding 402 yards on the ground and another 105 in the air with four scores.

Austin Lee anchors the FDSH defense with 27.5 tackles, with Tyler Nichols at 26 including five for loss. The Dodgers have forced 13 turnovers and have seven sacks as a unit.

Algona (4-0) needed its defense to remain unbeaten last week, getting a huge stop on a potential game-winning two-point conversion attempt by Webster City. The Bulldogs hung on for a 34-33 victory, as they scored over 34 points for the fourth time.

Wyatt Wegener ran for 216 yards and three touchdowns, adding a 78-yard catch that he scored on for his night. The senior also made seven tackles.

On the year, Wegener, has 928 yards of offense for an average of almost 19 per play with 13 touchdowns.

Cole Lewis had a team-high 13 stops in the game, giving him 30 on the year with two sacks heading into a district contest at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (2-2) Friday night.

South Central Calhoun (4-0) picked up a 38-7 victory over Southeast Valley. The Titans have scored 143 points this season and allowed just 13.

Six different SCC players had at least 20 yards rushing, led by Blake McAlister’s 71. Zane Neubaum had four catches for 74 yards to go along with a made field goal and three extra points. He also boomed a 72-yard punt during the game.

Landon Schleisman is the top rusher for the Titans with 223 yards, as McAlister, Keagen Meyer and Brennan Holder all have over 113 yards with a combined 12 rushing touchdowns.

South Central Calhoun hosts Ogden (1-3) this week to begin district play.
