Rams hold off SE softball squad late

A seventh-inning rally by the St. Edmond softball team came up just short here Thursday night, as the Gaels came up just short against Greene County at Rogers Park, 7-6.

Down 7-3, St. Edmond plated three runs but were unable to bring the tying player across.

“We showed so much heart there and determination in the seventh,” SEHS head coach Nick Clark said. “It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but it was so important that we made that run there.

“The girls never got down and had so much excitement still going. We can definitely carry this over to our next game.”

Erin Flattery and Jocy Timmerman both drove in two runs, with Flattery recording a double and single. Timmerman had two hits, with leadoff hitter Rylee Kinney finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base.

Gracie Harvey reached base three times and scored two runs for St. Edmond (8-10 overall), Macey Mason drove in a run and Devyn Scott reached twice.

“We had to play some girls in different positions and I thought they responded very well,” Clark said. “They were really strong mentally and accepted the challenge.

“Now, we’ll get our regular lineup back and I feel like we’re turning the corner in the right direction.”

Tieryn Tucker led the Rams (6-15) with a pair of RBI, as they scored twice in the first, twice in the third and added three more runs in the sixth.

St. Edmond returns to action on Monday when they host Algona in North Central Conference play.
