Pocahontas Area secures TLC title

EMMETSBURG — Christian Davidson delivered another memorable moment for Pocahontas Area and his dad, co-head coach Aaron Davidson.

Behind a no-hitter by Davidson, the Indians claimed their first Twin Lakes Conference baseball title since 2003 with a 12-0 victory over Emmetsburg here Wednesday night.

Davidson didn’t walk a batter and struck out 11, adding three hits, two runs, two RBI and two steals at the plate.

This is the final year for Aaron Davidson as a coach, as the St. Edmond graduate has accepted the position of principal at Fort Dodge Middle School.

“It felt awesome to be able to go out there and throw a no-hitter for the TLC title,” Christian Davidson said. “I have great teammates that can back me up in the field and come up with hits when we need it.”

“This makes it even more special winning the TLC in my dad’s last year coaching.”

Jace Davidson, Christian’s senior brother, went 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs and reached base two more times on the night.

“We are very proud of this group,” Aaron Davidson said. “They have put in the work in the offseason and they play the game right every night out.

“They are playing with a lot of confidence right now and we just need to continue that way. This means a heck of a lot to our program.”

Tyce Ruffridge, the younger son of co-head coach Brandon Ruffridge, was 2-for-3 with two steals and a run, with Trevor Frerk adding two hits, a run and an RBI at the plate.

The Indians, who are now 17-4 overall and 9-1 in the conference, won three consecutive TLC titles from 2001-03.
