Gibb wins senior stroke play event

CEDAR FALLS — Judd Gibb played a near-perfect round of golf here to claim the Iowa PGA Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play Event title.

The tournament was held at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.

Behind a bogey-free round of 66, Gibb was able to hold off John Bermel with a 6-under-par. Bermel was the runner-up at 5-under followed by Curt Schnell with a 3-under-par round.

The tournament pairs professionals with junior golfers over 18 holes of action. Gibb played with Gabrielle Fagerlind, Tanner Kemp and Leo Klapperich.

Gibb, who has finished in the Top-3 in his last three pro events, nearly claimed a spot in the PGA Championship earlier this year through a qualifier. The Fort Dodge native was representing Lakeside Golf Course at the recent event.

He opened with a 32 on the front-nine, recording four birdies. Gibb followed that up with a 34 on the back that included two more birdies.

Gibb’s six birdies were tops in the field as he also finished tied for first by playing the Par-3s at 1-under.

The next Iowa PGA event is the Boys Scouts Pro-Am at the Davenport Country Club on June 24.
