MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge baseball team dropped two games to Marshalltown here Wednesday.

The Bobcats won 4-3 in eight innings and 5-1.

In the opener, Drew Callon gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead in the seventh with a solo home run, but the Bobcats responded.

Marshalltown tied it at 3-all before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a double by Dru Dobbins that scored Will VanBuren.

“It was like the Waukee game where they executed after we gave them a couple freebies,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “We are putting ourselves in position to win games, now, we just need to toughen up and finish.

“That will come, though, by grinding every day and staying on top of things.”

Both Dylan Zimmermann and Jace Ulrich had two hits and an RBI each, with Callon belting his home run. Mason Bockoven and Anthony Wagner scored.

Drake Miller pitched seven-plus innings, striking out three on the night.

In the nightcap, the Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Carson Peterson connected on a double that drove in Wagner.

Peterson had the lone hits.

Fort Dodge returns to action Thursday at Ottumwa beginning at 3:30 p.m.
