Another sweep for Triton softball team

ESTHERVILLE — The ninth-ranked Iowa Central softball team scored a second consecutive doubleheader sweep, this time besting Iowa Lakes here Monday.

Scores were 5-4 and 8-2.

On Sunday, the Tritons (28-9 overall, 9-5 in ICCAC) downed Southwestern at Rogers Park, racking up 28 combined runs. They have won five in a row overall and are now 5-3 on the road.

Sophie Cave led the offense in the opener, as Iowa Central plated five runs in the second. Cave had a two-run homer and finished 2-for-4 in the game, with Parker Mathews driving in two.

Payton Andersen collected two hits in support of Kallie Malloy and Bre Tjebben inside the circle. Malloy picked up the win, striking out six over five-plus innings, with Tjebben getting the final four outs for the save.

In the second, Cave hit another home, driving in three runs on two hits. Mathews and Tjebben each had two hits and an RBI.

Bre Small pitched the first five innings, striking out two, with Tjebben recording the final six outs and allowing just a single hit to secure a second save.

Iowa Central travels to Norfolk, Neb. on Friday to face Northeast before returning home to host Des Moines Area on Saturday.
