MASON CITY — The Iowa Central women’s basketball team is a different team than the last time they lost to second-ranked NIACC.

The Tritons will get thier third shot at the Trojans as they’ll meet in the semifinal round of the Region XI tournament in Mason City.

Action begins at 1 p.m. today.

Iowa Central (18-12 overall) is coming off a 64-55 win over Iowa Lakes in their tournament opener. The Trojans (25-5) defeated Little Priest Tribal 94-56.

In early January NIACC beat the Tritons 79-62. In early February the Tritons lost 74-63 as part of a five-game losing streak.

The Tritons have turned the corner and have reeled off six consecutive victories, two straight on the road.

In the last meeting, Brittany West had 19 points, Fort Dodge graduate Shariah Smith had 15 and Tierra Itula had 12 .

West has 38 points in the series. Itula has 25 and Terwilliger scored 17 in January.

West is the Tritons’ leading score at 14.1 per night. Terwilliger (11.3) and Itula (10.9) are also in double figures.

Smith is scoring at a 8.6 per night.

NIACC’s Mandy Wilems has 46 points and Autam Mendez has 41 in the two contests. Wilems had a 29 point effort in February and Mendez scored 30 in January.

Wilems is averaging 24.7 points per game, while Jada Buford (19.8), Mendez (16.1) and Tahya Campbell (13.1) are also in double digits.

The top-seeded Trojans have hit 30 three pointers in 91 tries in the series and are the top team in the nation in three pointers made per game (14.6) and three pointers attempted (43.8).

They are averaging a national high 95.5 points per contest. The Trojans have reached the century mark 13 times and have a season high 131 points were they hit 19 three pointers.

NIACC has won 13 straight games and 16 of their last 18.

Second-seed Kirkwood will meet DMACC in the second semifinal.
