Iowa Central heads to regionals

MASON CITY — Bids to the upcoming NJCAA National Wrestling Championship will be handed out here Sunday at the Central Districts hosted by North Iowa Area.

Fourth-ranked Iowa Central leads the ICCAC squads into action, as all five teams boast full 10-wrestler rosters.

Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.

The Tritons went 5-1 in the regular season to claim another conference title. They also won the district crown last season with 173 points.

No. 6 Ellsworth, seventh-ranked Iowa Lakes, No. 8 Iowa Western and the host Trojans will all be trying to knock Luke Moffitt’s team off.

Iowa Central features four returning national qualifiers and two medalists in Ethan Karsten and Tyree Sutton. Karsten is ranked third at 157 pounds and Sutton is first at 197.

Kevin Radcliff, rated sixth at 125, and heavyweight Gunner Cash are the other returning qualifiers.

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Damond Lockner, Yar Aldiva, Travis Willers, Ashton Eyler and Brian Stanford complete the lineup for the Tritons. Aldiva is rated seventh, Willers fourth and Eyler sixth.

Ellsworth has three returning qualifiers and four ranked individuals, Iowa Lakes features three qualifiers back with both Iowa Western and NIACC boasting one qualifier each.

The national championship is scheduled for March 1-2 inside the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.

Last year, Iowa Central finished third and Iowa Western was fifth overall. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M captured the team title.
