FD boys thump Mohawks

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge boys continued to gain momentum ahead of the postseason, posting a convincing 61-41 victory over Mason City Saturday.

The Dodgers (8-12 overall) have now won seven of their last 10 after a four-game losing streak. This is the ninth time in the past 10 years FDSH has won at least eight games, all under Tom Daniel.

Jace Peterson scored a career-high 20 points to lead Fort Dodge, with Jordan Jackson adding 15 and Tysen Kershaw 12.

The Dodger defense, though, was what left Daniel impressed.

“To hold them to 11 points at the half just shows we were focused on playing good team defense,” he said. “It was their Senior Night, but we came out and took away that energy. Getting early stops made all the difference in the game and led to some easy buckets for us.

“Dayson (Clayton) did a great job and Jace stepped up big on the offensive end.”

Fort Dodge also avenged a 66-60 loss at home earlier this year to Mason City. The current three-game win streak for the Dodgers is the longest of the season.

“It was huge coming back and getting them this time around,” Daniel said. “We always use the (rematch) as a measuring stick and felt that first meeting was one we let get away.”

The Dodgers head to Des Moines North Monday before finishing the regular season Tuesday at Ankeny Centennial.
