Tritons earn tight win over Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — The fourth-ranked Iowa Central wrestling team edged sixth-ranked Ellsworth 19-17 on Tuesday night.

With the Tritons leading 15-14 and two matches to go, top-ranked Tyree Sutton (197) earned a major decision over sixth-ranked Bryce Pilcher to put the Tritons up 19-14.

Ellsworth earned a victory at heavyweight to make the final score 19-17.

“It’s nice to get a road win,” said Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt. “We have some big matches coming up with six duals on Friday against the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams.”

Also earning decision victories for the Tritons were Kevin Radcliff (125), Yarhoski Aldiva (149), Ethan Karsten (157), Travis Willers (165) and Brian Stanford (184).

The unranked Stanford pulled off the upset over third-ranked Jordan Shahrikian for the Tritons.

Aldiva, who is ranked eighth, knocked off fourth-ranked Cardeionte Wilson for Iowa Central.

“This was a big win for us,” Moffitt said. “A couple of our guys came up with some big wins.”

The Tritons are back in action on Friday when they take part in the NEO Duals. Action begins at 9 a.m.
