The DMACC women used a strong fourth quarter to spoil “Jam the Gym” day for Iowa Central here Saturday afternoon.

Aliyah Robinson scored 20 points and Grace Stalzer had all six of her points in the fourth to lead the Bears to come-from-behind 80-72 victory inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

DMACC (9-11 overall, 4-3 in ICCAC) outscored the Tritons (12-8, 3-4) 19-10 over the final 10 minutes. Asia Mena had 12 with Sameria Jackson adding 11 and Ellie Horn 10 and 10 rebounds.

For Iowa Central, Tierra Itula had 20 points and seven rebounds, Avery Terwilliger had 11 points, and Brittany West scored 10 with five boards.

“Give DMACC credit because they made more plays than we did,” ICCC head coach Kelly Kruger said. “We hung our heads there in the fourth. We started to feel sorry for ourselves and that was the end of it.

“We’ve got to be more mentally tough. Maybe I’ve got to make some changes.”

The Tritons held a slim 62-61 lead heading into the fourth, but the Bears scored eight in a row. Six different DMACC players scored in the quarter.

Overall, the Bears shot 49 percent from the floor and 56 percent from the 3-point line. They were also plus-six on the glass and plus-eight on second-chance points.

Iowa Central held a 28-14 advantage on points in the paint with both teams committing 15 turnovers.

“How you handle adversity is going to show a lot in regards to the outcome,” Kruger said. “I don’t think we handled that well. This one should hurt. Losing at home these last two Saturdays have been tough. I’ve got to take a lot of blame for that too.”

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Taelor Lessmeier is redshirting this season at DMACC. She appeared in five games earlier this year.

The Tritons return to action Wednesday at Southwestern. The Spartans (7-12, 1-6) fell to Little Priest Tribal, 83-71.
