Iowa Central hosts Jam the Gym

Iowa Central’s annual “Jam the Gym” basketball doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

The women’s contest with Des Moines Area kicks off the action, with the men to follow at approximately 3 p.m.

High school area juniors an seniors are invited to attend. The official “Triton Visit Day” begins at 9 a.m. with tours of the campus, information about the academic programs, meetings with athletic coaches and a lunch.

Any high schooler attending the games will receive a free t-shirt and have the chance to win prizes being given out during the day. Seniors will also have the chance to win a full tuition scholarship.

The Iowa Central women (12-7 overall, 3-3 in ICCAC) have won three of four, including a 73-50 victory at Southeastern this past Wednesday night.

Brittany West, Tierra Itula and Avery Terwilliger all average double figures for the Tritons. Itula leads the team at seven rebounds per contest and Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Shariah Smith is the leader at three assists.

The Tritons are 7-3 at home this season.

For the Bears (8-11, 3-3), they are 2-2 over their last four. Ex-Dodger Taelor Lessmeier has played in five games for DMACC this year.

Aliyah Robinson is the leading scorer for the Bears along with Asia Mena.

The Iowa Central men (9-11, 2-3) are led by Dallas Bailey, as the sophomore is scoring 17 points a night. Kemryn Jenkins is just under 15 points a game and Royshawn Webb is at 13.4.

Bailey also averages almost nine rebounds, 2.5 assists and a steal per contest, with Webb at six rebounds and two-plus assists.

The Tritons, who are 6-4 on their home floor, are coming off an upset of then-No. 16 Iowa Lakes, 98-96.

DMACC’s (12-6, 2-3) scoring leader is Tray Buchanan, as the sophomore averages almost 21 points per game. DeShawn Davidson is second at 18.9.
