Gael wrestlers win first dual

LAKE CITY — Ryan Duckett won three matches at the South Central Calhoun Duals, but his win against Lawton-Bronson may have been the biggest of the season.

Not only did the victory secure St. Edmond its first dual win of the season, but according to head coach Eugene Carlson, it was his best match of the season.

“That was the best match I’ve seen him wrestle this season,” Carlson said. “We moved him up to 120 because we need him to get battle tested.

“Ryan really found something inside of himself in that match.”

Duckett’s victory began and ended the dual. St. Edmond and Lawton-Bronson picked up four forfeits and there were five double forfeits. The Gaels picked up a 27-24 victory.

Ducket earned a 10-7 decision over Gilbert’s Brody Bents and a fall in 19 seconds over West Monona-s Dylan Kuhlman in 19 seconds. He suffered a loss to South Central Calhoun’s Ayden Toms.

Gilbert went 4-0 to claim the championship. South Central Calhoun was second, finishing 3-1. The Titans lost to Gilbert 39-27.

South Central Calhoun beat Lawton-Bronson 71-12, St. Edmond 78-0 and West Monona 52-18.

Winning four matches for the Titans were Blake McAlister, Chase McAlister, Kody Kutz, Kevin King, Toms and Micahel Lyon. Earning three victories were Jordan Khommanyvong and Jaydin Soard.

The Gaels are back in action on Saturday when they head to Manson Northwest Webster for a Class 1A sectional meet.
