Iowa Central swim team in action

LIBERTY, Mo. — The Iowa Central swim teams were in action here Saturday, competing with Barton Community College, the University of St. Mary’s, and host William Jewell.

The Triton men defeated Barton, 195-54, and St. Mary’s, 204-43, while losing to William Jewell, 151-111. The women topped St. Mary’s, 171-35, and Barton, 161-75, before falling to William Jewell, 161-91.

“The kids performed well,” ICCC head coach Joe Plane said. “We faced some NCAA Div. II competition from William Jewell, which will make us better. I thought, given the long ride down and the meet itself being over three hours, we took a positive step forward.”

Mariano Sosa was a double winner for the Tritons, taking the 100 backstroke (59.46) and the 200 backstroke (2:05.33). Juan Hayman captured the 50 freestyle in 24.45 and the 100 butterfly in 57.32.

Vinicius Molz (800 freestyle, 8:52.78) and Marcelo Busch (400 freestyle, 4:09.64) were the other Iowa Central champs.

Emilie Andrin was a two-time champ, earning titles in the 100 and 200 breaststroke in 1:16.88 and 2:47.76, respectively. Other winners were Eve Berg (800 freestyle, 9:47.66), Mary Marshall (100 butterfly, 1:10.57) and Maria Diaz (200 individual medley, 2:34.85).

All events were completed in a short-course pool.

Iowa Central returns to action at the St. Cloud State Invitational on Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.
